ACCESS Rugby is a Victorian Rugby Union Multicultural Development Program. Access Rugby is designed to engage Indigenous and CALD (Cultural and Linguistically Diverse) Communities through Rugby related activities.
Through ACCESS Rugby the VRU will offer Rugby to these communities who face Linguistic and Cultural barriers that may otherwise prevent them from engaging in active participation.
The VRU will redevelop the Backyard Rugby Program to engage CALD and Indigenous Communities in the targeted diverse areas. The Backyard Rugby Program will provide 'on field' and 'off field' support and guidance to the targeted youth. It will also provide a pathway for these you to participate in more Regular Rugby. The VRU are currently delivering this program in the City of Frankston, Hume and Brimbank.
The VRU will create a Cultural Change Program within the VRU and our Rugby Community to try and break down the social, linguistic and cultural barriers which our diverse Rugby community face. Such initiatives include; ensuring Inclusion and Diversity is a major focus in VRU Strategic Plan, Board and Staff Cultural awareness training, including an induction manual. Multicultural DO who has the capacity to deliver Education to the diverse communities and having resources that meet the needs of the specific communities.
